When Huawei debuted the Nova series in 2016, there were a few doubts that it would succeed.
One said, “In astronomy terms, novas are exploding stars, and it’s debatable whether these phones, as polished and well-rounded as they are, will set the world alight.” Another, in its review of the Huawei Nova, wrote, “Should you buy it? No.”
Mark your calendar, Philippines! A new #NovaStar is coming this 2019
But three years since, and we’re looking at one of the manufacturer’s most successful lineups thus far. In fact, another #NovaStar — a still-unknown device with five cameras — is launching in the Philippines August 29.
Refreshed
As Huawei announced the Nova 5 smartphones in China, so did it reveal an updated iconography for the series. See the difference below.
…to this
New look, new feel — but thankfully, the refreshed branding still gives off that same youthful energy it exuded when it was introduced three years ago. After all, the Nova is positioned as a flagship line for the younger generation.

As one China-based company executive told us when we asked him about the iconography, “The Nova is for the young millennials and professionals, the students, the digital natives, the Generation Z…”
Whereas the Mate is associated with ultimate, hi-tech, and premium and the P series is all about photography, art, and aesthetic, this one is positioned with the following terms in mind: innovation, where the word “nova” — or a new star — is derived; chic; and dynamic.

Expect every Nova smartphone to use stylish gradients, premium materials such as glass and metal, and ergonomic construction. Expect it to be powered by high-speed Kirin processors and beefy graphics chips, too. And don’t forget the multi-lens camera technology, which comes standard.
In the Philippines
In the local scene, Huawei’s Nova models are so popular that we are always picked to be one of the first countries for a new release.
In 2018, for example, 20,000 Huawei Nova 3i units were sold on the first day of sale. That’s equivalent to almost P320 million (a little over $6 million) worth of Nova 3i handsets purchased at launch.
In 2017, the company sold 1,000 units of the Huawei Nova 2i in just one hour.

What Nova phone will Huawei Philippines unveil this year? Will it be the Nova 5i Pro, Nova 5 Pro, Nova 5i, or Nova 5 — or those that were initially announced in China? Will it be the Huawei Nova 5T, whose global first look is happening August 25 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia? Or will it be something else?
Guess we just have to “tune in” to Huawei Philippines’ Facebook page to get more clues about the birth of this new star.
