Just mere months after OPPO launched the Reno and Reno 10x Zoom Edition, the Reno 2 series will make its debut this month.

The smartphone maker made its announcement on Twitter, saying that the OPPO Reno 2 with quad cameras and 20x zoom will be announced August 28 and coming first to India. Of course, an official release in the Philippines isn’t out of the question, considering OPPO’s strong retail performance here.

OPPO Reno 2 series coming soon
The post also confirms the return of the wedge-style, pop-up camera of the original series, which means the Reno 2 devices will get the full-screen treatment as well, without a notch or hole-punch screen.
The OPPO Reno 10x Zoom Edition is one of the best phones we’ve used for video and zoom photography, so it will be interesting to see what the Reno 2 range brings to the table. Having four rear cameras isn’t anything new nowadays, and it’s possible that the extra camera on the back is a macro camera that is designed to shoot small objects up close.

As for the Reno 2’s 20x zoom capability, our guess is that it’s hybrid zoom made possible by an improved periscope camera system similar to that of the Reno 10x Zoom Edition. We also think the successor to the latter will top out higher than 60x in terms of digital zoom.
We don’t, at this point, know the processing power of the upcoming Reno models, but since the 10x Zoom Edition uses a Snapdragon 855, it would make sense for OPPO to bring the Snapdragon 855 Plus to its premium range. The regular Reno 2 might see a Snapdragon 730 under the hood, which should be an upgrade over the Snapdragon 710-based Reno.

The standard OPPO Reno was priced at P26,990 (around $515) when it launched in the Philippines back in June, while the Reno 10x Zoom Edition fetched a price tag of P45,990 ($877). Their successors should prove to be just as costly, especially given the upgraded camera system.
