Cherry Mobile’s latest smartphone series is now official. The local technology company has announced specs, pricing, and availability for the new Cherry Mobile Flare S8 Plus, Flare S8 Pro, and Flare S8.
Pricing and availability
The Cherry Mobile Flare S8 Plus, the flagship model in the range, is priced at P12,999 or around $254 converted, while the Flare S8 Pro and Flare S8 can be purchased for P5,999 ($117) and P3,999 ($78), respectively. All three run Android 9.0 Pie and will go on sale end-August.
Cherry Mobile Flare S8 Plus
The biggest name in the newly launched lineup is obviously the Cherry Mobile Flare S8 Plus, which boasts pop-up selfie cameras and a rear-facing camera system with three lenses. All in all, there are a total of five lenses on this handset, although only two are attached to standalone cameras.
The LCD screen, as you can tell, occupies most of the front, with no notch or a hole-punch design of any kind to get in the way. It measures 6.26 inches and has a 2,280 x 1,080 resolution. Behind the display, there’s a Helio P70 processor — a slight upgrade from the P60 of the Flare S7 Plus — coupled with 6GB RAM and 128GB of storage.
The battery is 3,250mAh and supports 10-watt charging over a modern USB-C port. Also, yes, as we earlier reported, the Flare S8 Plus has the same ODM, or original design manufacturer, as the Elephone U2.
Cherry Mobile Flare S8 Pro
The Cherry Mobile Flare S8 Pro flaunts the biggest screen of the bunch — 6.5 inches diagonally.
Besides offering more screen real estate, it also packs a 4,000mAh battery that charges over USB-C and a MediaTek Helio P22 chipset backed by 4GB RAM and 64GB storage.
The phone has a glossy, gradient back cover, dual rear cameras, and a physical fingerprint sensor for quickly unlocking the device.
Cherry Mobile Flare S8
Finally, there’s the Cherry Mobile Flare S8. It features a gradient design and a MediaTek Helio P23 processor with 3GB RAM and 32GB storage. It likewise gets dual cameras on the back and a 13-megapixel front camera in the teardrop notch at the top of the LCD screen.
Powering the device is a 2,800mAh battery, which is a little disappointing considering the specs and 6.26-inch display.
The back of the phone has a fingerprint reader, which we rarely see on a sub-P4,000 ($78) phone, so kudos for that.
