The Huawei Y9 Prime 2019, the company’s first all-screen phone with a pop-up camera (next to the Huawei P Smart Z, of course), hit stores in the Philippines earlier today with a suggested retail price of P12,990 or about $254 off contract.

Early retail sales figures for the new midrange smartphone have been released, and they certainly look impressive. An upbeat Huawei Philippines says it has sold P200 million (almost $4 million) worth of Y9 Prime 2019 units in the country in just two hours of the handset’s initial sale date. 

That figure translates to around 15,396 units sold, or about 128 phones per minute.

By contrast, consider that last year, Huawei sold a total of 20,000 units, or close to P320 million ($6.2 million) worth of Huawei Nova 3i units, in the Philippines during its first day — we repeat, the whole day, not in two hours — at retail. The Nova 3i was priced at P15,990 ($313) at launch. 

In October 2017, Huawei Philippines sold 1,000 units of the Nova 2i, the Nova 3i’s predecessor, in an hour. The Nova 2i was listed at P14,990 ($294) then.
