They may be competitors, but what some people don’t know is that smartphone manufacturers also rely on each other to survive.
Case in point: Huawei got LG and BOE to supply the OLED screen of the Mate 20 Pro. However, those partnerships could have ended, as a report out of China claims.
Word has it that Huawei has turned to one of its fiercest rivals, Samsung, to be the sole provider of the AMOLED display of the Huawei P30 and P30 Pro. The upcoming flagship-series phones will be launched in Paris, France, on March 26.

There were several reasons given, and one of them is that Samsung has impressed Huawei during supplier screening; the quality of the panel vis-à-vis the price is terrific. Plus, the Korean company, being the biggest smartphone OLED supplier, has the capability to meet Huawei’s high demand.
What’s more, dealing with one supplier should make things simpler for China’s No. 1 handset maker.

Of course, you probably still remember what happened after the Huawei Mate 20 Pro became available in the market, right? Within a week or two after the release of the device, some customers observed that there was a green tint along the edges of the Mate’s curved display. BOE panels were okay. The one on our unit certainly was. But those made by LG — the same supplier involved in the Google Pixel 3 fiasco — were affected. So this could be a factor in Huawei’s alleged decision to switch to Samsung.
