HMD Global, the maker of Nokia phones, will apparently join the likes of Huawei, OPPO, Vivo, and Xiaomi in unveiling a device at the February-scheduled annual tech conference. No less than the company’s chief product officer, Juho Sarvikas, tweeted that he would like people to watch the livestream of HMD Global’s “MWC Showdown on the 24th of Feb.”

As to what HMD Global will actually reveal on the said date, there is strong speculation that the Nokia 9 PureView might make an appearance at the event, along with several other new Nokia handsets. Previous reports had suggested the Nokia 9 PureView would be the world’s first phone with five cameras on the back.

The Nokia 9 PureView is also speculated to launch with a 5.99-inch, 18:9 OLED screen with a 2K resolution plus HDR support, as well as last year’s Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 mated to 8GB RAM and 256GB of built-in storage. A 5G-ready version powered by Qualcomm’s latest and greatest Snapdragon 855 could go into production as well.

For biometric unlocking, it’s rumored to have an in-display fingerprint reader. It might get a 4,150mAh battery too, one capable of fast charging via a USB-C port. While near-stock Android 9.0 Pie is pretty much a given for a new Nokia device these days.
