Xiaomi Black Shark Skywalker, alleged Mi 9 show up on Geekbench

Two unofficial Xiaomi smartphones bearing Qualcomm’s latest — and greatest — Snapdragon 855 processor have popped up on Geekbench, suggesting the two could launch sooner than expected.

In particular, the Xiaomi Black Shark Skywalker, believed to be Black Shark Helo’s successor, and a phone code-named the Cepheus, which some think is the Xiaomi Mi 9, have swung by the popular benchmarking site. In terms of connectivity, both are expected to support super-fast 5G connectivity where available.

The Black Shark Helo successor is listed to be backed by 8GB of RAM, while the sequel to the Mi 8 reportedly packs 6GB RAM. The single- and multi-core benchmarks for the Black Shark Skywalker are 3,494 and 11,149, respectively. Meanwhile, the Cepheus or Xiaomi Mi 9 achieved similar benchmarks of 3,524 and 11,260 in similar tests, in the same order.

The scores are comparatively higher than those of the Kirin 980-based Huawei Mate 20 Pro, but lower than the numbers for the Apple iPhone XS with the A12 Bionic inside.

A report last week claimed Xiaomi might launch the Mi 9 next month, likely at Mobile World Congress or MWC 2019 in Barcelona. It’s also said to be priced at ¥2,999, which translates to around P22,997 or $439.

Besides sporting top-end internals, the company’s future flagship might include a triple-sensor setup similar to the Huawei P20 Pro and Mate 20 series phones, with the third camera being a 3D TOF camera for depth sensing and motion capture.

The Xiaomi Mi 9’s OLED screen could also be slightly bigger, measuring 6.4 inches diagonally. Its alleged 3,500mAh battery, on the other hand, might get 32-watt fast wired charging. Cross those fingers.

As for the Xiaomi Black Shark Skywalker, there’s not much else known about the device right now, though things might change quickly in the coming weeks.
