The Google Pixel 3 event won’t happen until October 9, but we’ve already seen plenty of official details and promotional images get leaked online. Key specs and features and pricing details have made their way out onto the interwebs. Google’s secrets aren’t secret anymore.
There are even reviews of the still-unreleased Google Pixel 3 XL out there now, including one from U.S.-based tech website Engadget, which managed to get up close and personal with an alleged retail unit through a store in Hong Kong.

While another review, written in Chinese, tests the camera performance of Google’s next flagship smartphone and compares it to the output of the Apple iPhone XS Max, the second-best camera phone on the market right now, according to camera-testing website DxOMark.
Turns out, the Pixel 3 XL may outperform the iPhone XS Max in low-light environments. Based on two sets of samples, the Pixel seems to offer more accurate white balance and pleasing exposure in both indoor and outdoor environments.

And that’s a surprising observation because it only has one camera on the back. Whereas the iPhone XS Max, like recent Apple flagships, has a dual-sensor camera module, with the extra camera featuring a telephoto lens for lossless zooming and portraits that look like they were taken by a professional system.
The Google Pixel 3 XL uses a single 12-megapixel camera and relies heavily on software to simulate depth effects. Both sensors on the Apple iPhone XS Max come in at 12 megapixels.

If these results are indeed indicative of general performance, Google could make a case that adding more cameras doesn’t necessarily make a setup better than others. One could even say that it’s counter to the interest of companies that cram in as many cameras as possible into their smartphones.

The 8-megapixel selfie camera of the Pixel 3 XL, on the other hand, includes two lenses — one super-wide lens for taking group shots or for getting a lot of the background in the frame, and one regular lens for tighter photos.
As for the rest of the specs, the Google Pixel 3 XL will be equipped with Android 9.0 Pie out of the box, a notched 6.3-inch OLED screen, and Qualcomm’s top-of-the-line Snapdragon 845 processor, along with 4GB RAM and 128GB of storage. However, it’s assumed that the company will announce a higher-end 6GB RAM version for power users who want the best performance money can buy.

It’s estimated that the Google Pixel 3 XL will run customers in Europe £766 (around P54,492 or $1,005), while the regular Pixel 3 might be priced at around £706 (P50,223 or $926).
