Less than a year after Xiaomi unveiled the Redmi Note 5 (or Redmi Note 5 Pro in India), the Chinese hardware and software company is back in the spotlight for the Xiaomi Redmi Note 6 Pro.
As reported by multiple websites, the Redmi successor shares many specs with the previous version. But the Redmi Note 6 Pro is different in a couple of ways, focusing on the camera system for selfies this time, while updating the series for notch-loving customers.

First, the Redmi Note 6 Pro has dual shooters on the front and rear, making it the first Xiaomi phone with four AI-bolstered cameras. The front-facing system, in particular, gets 20- and 2-megapixel sensors, with the latter intended for depth sensing to pull off portrait-style shots with pleasing depth of field. The company has also equipped the Redmi Note 5 Pro for the Indian market with a 20-megapixel selfie camera.

On the other hand, the back-facing set of cameras of the Xiaomi Redmi Note 6 Pro has 12- and 5-megapixel sensors positioned vertically, just like on the Redmi Note 5 (and Redmi Note 5 Pro). The main shooter seems to be identical to what came out earlier. A physical fingerprint reader also takes up space around the backside.
The second major addition is the 6.26-inch, 19:9 notched LCD screen with narrow side bezels and a sizable chin at the base. Even so, the new smartphone is said to have an 81-percent screen-to-body ratio, which is higher than its predecessor’s, though not by much.

Under the hood, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 6 Pro features the same octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 processor from months before. The chip is joined by 4GB RAM and 64GB of expandable storage. Xiaomi, as it has done in the past, will probably launch a version with more memory at a later date. A 4,000mAh battery that is claimed to provide two days of use on a single charge still powers the assembly. And it runs MIUI based on Android 8.1 Oreo.
Xiaomi Redmi Note 6 Pro price and availability
The Redmi Note 6 Pro sells for the equivalent of $215 or P11,677 in Thailand, where it first launched. It’s available in black, blue, and rose gold colors. There’s no word on when or where the phone will show up next. But knowing Xiaomi’s aggressive global strategy, we should hear something soon. In the Philippines maybe?
