Apple iPhone X, 2 more iPhone models discontinued

We might just hold on to our Apple iPhone X. The handset, which celebrates the decade-long journey of the product that helped spur the smartphone industry, is being discontinued just one year after it was launched. We just want to keep a piece of a storied device.

The move makes sense with today’s announcement of the Apple iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, and iPhone XR. The more premium XS units start at $999 (roughly P53,927) in the United States, the same price as the 64GB iPhone X at launch. The XR’s base model, on the other hand, retails at $749 (P40,431). The 10th-anniversary iPhone would have been right smack in the middle, which does not sound like a smart pricing strategy.

Plus, you have to understand that the 5.8-inch iPhone XS is just an incremental — not a revolutionary — upgrade to the Apple iPhone X, another 5.8-incher. The two devices look even similar.

Besides last year’s iPhone, Apple is not selling the iPhone SE and iPhone 6S anymore, too. The two models have a common denominator: They both have a headphone jack. The development marks the end of an era, as a feature that’s been a staple of many electronic products is now officially gone from any of Apple’s iDevices.

The trillion-dollar company‘s lineup, completely streamlined, is now composed of only seven models.

  1. iPhone XS Max
  2. iPhone XS
  3. iPhone XR
  4. iPhone 8 Plus
  5. iPhone 8
  6. iPhone 7 Plus
  7. iPhone 7
