No smartphone is perfect, but some are more problematic than others. And according to the latest State of Mobile Device Repair and Security Report, the Xiaomi Redmi 4 and Apple iPhone 6 had the highest failure rates among Android and iOS devices in the last quarter of 2017.

2013’s Redmi 4 was one of two Xiaomi handsets that were part of the Android list; the other was last year’s Redmi Y1, also known as the Redmi 5A in the Philippines and most other markets. However, Samsung got the most number of models with issues. We’re talking about the Galaxy S7, S8+, S7 Active, S6, and S7 Edge.

Other Android phones that got included in the top 10 were the Moto G5S Plus, Lenovo K8 Note, and Nokia 6.

It seems that the more popular models tend to have higher failure rates. Logic dictates that the number of units sold could be a factor in that. Interestingly, though, no device from Huawei landed on the list. Even as a brand, the Chinese manufacturer was only eighth in the “Top 10 Android Manufacturers by Failure Rate” ranking. This, even if it’s the world’s third biggest smartphone vendor. Check out the image below.

Data-security company Blancco, which made the report, said that these were the top Android issues reported in the fourth quarter of 2017:

  1. Performance (speed, battery life, and frozen screen, among others)
  2. Camera
  3. Microphone
  4. Headset
  5. Speaker

For iOS, the Apple iPhone 6 and 6S series — which were launched in 2014 and 2015, respectively — continued to lead the pack of iPhones in terms of failure rates. Chief among the complaints were the following:

  1. Bluetooth
  2. WiFi
  3. Headset
  4. Mobile data
  5. Receiver

Blancco said that while they expect iPhone X and 8 series models to populate the list in 2018, the iPhone 6 is anticipated to stay in the top spot for at least the next quarter or two.
