Fresh on the heels of the Vivo X21 announcement, Vivo has quietly dropped the price of the base version of the Y71 at local retail. In case you missed our post back in April — when the company’s cheapest 18:9 phone launched in the Philippines — the Vivo Y71 debuted at P7,990 (approximately $150) for the 2GB RAM model, while the 3GB RAM unit came in at P8,990 ($169).
Following the price cut, the Y71 with 2GB RAM now sells for just P6,999 ($132). For now, the version with more memory costs as much as it did in April 2018.

Physically, the Vivo Y71 shares the same design language as the Vivo V7 and V7+ from last year. The metallic casing features rounded edges and incorporates a fingerprint reader and a large, extra-tall HD screen that’s more suited for displaying content in landscape mode. It runs the company’s own Android 8.1 Oreo-based interface on a quad-core Snapdragon 425 processor. It’s fueled by a 3,360mAh battery that charges over a microUSB connector.
The cameras — 8 megapixels (on the 2GB RAM variant) or 13 megapixels (on the 3GB RAM model) at the back and 5 megapixels on the front — are okay for the price, neither impressive nor bad.

That said, if you’re considering this particular phone, you’re probably expecting solid value out of the taller touchscreen. We’ve seen it up close; we think it’s decent enough for the average customer who is less concerned with the sharpest possible resolution and more concerned with having more screen real estate to work with.
The price drop should take effect immediately, so if you’re interested, be sure to drop by the nearest Vivo store near your location.
