Remember the Vivo APEX concept phone that was showcased at MWC 2018 in February? Word has it that its retail version will be launched as the Vivo NEX on June 12. And that’s not all. It may even have two variants.

All the materials we’ve seen thus far — both official and unofficial — point to a device that has a pop-up camera, which is the same as the one we saw at the mobile expo a few months ago. That, along with the under-display fingerprint sensor, was used for the unit to get more of the screen and less of the bezels without implementing a notch.
The result? A handset that’s unlike anything we’ve seen — one that should be perfect for watching videos and playing games.

It’s supposed to come with the best specs — a high-end Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor paired 8GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage — and a ¥4,999 (roughly P41,006 or $781) price tag.

But in today’s leak, we’re looking at something with a slightly thicker bottom bezel to make room for the front camera. It reminds us of the Xiaomi Mi MIX 2S, by the way. Could this be another variant of the Vivo NEX?
We won’t be surprised if it is. Vivo has been launching different models of one smartphone. For example, its X21 has a version with in-display fingerprint reader called the Vivo X21 UD.
So if you’re concerned about moving parts, then you can always opt for this one — at a cost. This unit will supposedly be powered by a midrange Snapdragon 660. The chip is coupled with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of native memory. Hence, a lower price of ¥3,798 (roughly P31,152 or $594).
Fortunately, we won’t have to wait that long to get official details of the Vivo NEX. We’re especially excited to see how it stacks up against Lenovo’s upcoming bezel-less smartphone, the Lenovo Z5. Stay put.
