After numerous leaks and teases, Samsung today gave us a proper look at the present, and maybe future, of its smartphone lineup in the bargain territory. At a press event in India, the world’s top phone vendor revealed the new Samsung Galaxy J4, Galaxy J6, and Galaxy J8.
(Update, May 25, 2018: The Samsung Galaxy J6 is coming to the Philippines. Read Teased: Samsung Galaxy J6 with Nadine Lustre as endorser.)
The three devices are expected to headline the company’s efforts in the country of roughly 1.3 billion, where price is a major consideration. And while the three cater to consumer interests at different price segments, they share a couple of traits that draw on their Samsung heritage. Importantly, they’re pretty affordable across the board.

The Samsung Galaxy J8, the most capable of the three devices, has been priced at ₹18,990 (around P14,607 or $279) and will go on sale from June 20. The Galaxy J6 starts at ₹13,990 (P10,761 or $205) for the model with 3GB RAM; the price goes up to ₹16,490 (P12,684 or $242) for the 4GB RAM variant. Both versions are expected to become available starting May 22. There’s no word on when the Galaxy J4 will hit the Indian market.
An announcement in the Philippines could follow soon enough, with the Galaxy J4 already listed on Samsung’s official website.
Samsung Galaxy J8
The Galaxy J8 is built around Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 450, complemented by 4GB RAM and Adreno 506 graphics for gaming performance equivalent to that of a mid-tier handset. The screen measures 6 inches and uses AMOLED technology for a brighter and more vivid picture. It’s layered with curved-edge glass on top, and the resolution is 1,480 x 720 pixels, which gives it a screen ratio of 18.5:9, otherwise known as Samsung’s Infinity Display treatment.

Moving to the camera department, the Galaxy J8 has been outfitted with a dual-lens system consisting of a 16-megapixel primary camera with f/1.7 aperture and a 5-megapixel secondary one with f/1.9 aperture. A 16-megapixel selfie camera occupies the J8’s top bezel.
Elsewhere, there’s a sizable 3,500mAh battery, which should be able to keep the device going for a full day from each charge. The phone runs on Android 8.0 Oreo with Samsung Experience skinned on top.

Samsung Galaxy J6
The Galaxy J6 is basically a toned-down version of the J8, sporting an AMOLED screen that has been scaled back to 5.6 inches, but retains the resolution and taller aspect ratio of the J8’s panel. It’s driven by Android 8.0 Oreo with Samsung’s user interface fully intact as well.
As rumored earlier this week, it will arrive with an octa-core Exynos 7870 processor with 3GB RAM and 32GB storage or 4GB RAM and double the onboard memory, along with a 3,000mAh battery under the hood.

In line with previous leaked information, the Exynos 7570 sees four CPU cores running at 1.4GHz and a single-core Mali-T720 on the graphics front. The RAM is 2GB, while the base storage is expectedly modest at 16GB. The rear and front cameras are 13 and 5 megapixels. Just like on the Galaxy J6, both are assisted by LED flash for brighter, sharper snaps in low light.
