There’s no doubt now that ASUS is working on a gaming smartphone. Its CEO, Jerry Shen himself confirmed last month that we should expect a gaming-centric mobile from them.

It’s no surprise, really. After all, gaming is in ASUS’ DNA, what with its Republic of Gamers or ROG brand. If there’s one company that can and should release a device like that, it is ASUS.

Today, it’s confirmed that the Taiwanese manufacturer already told its investors that it will launch the ASUS ROG Phone at Computex, a computer expo that’s held annually in Taipei, Taiwan. The announcement happened during its quarterly conference.

Computex 2018 will be held from June 5 to June 9. According to this microsite, the ASUS press conference will kick off at 6:30 p.m. (Taiwan time, which is the same as Philippine time) on June 4, so we bet the ASUS ROG Phone launch will happen on that day.

The mobile-gaming category is getting exciting, pumped up by the unveiling of the Razer Phone in November 2017. Two more of this kind of niche device were introduced to the market in April 2018 — the Xiaomi Black Shark and the Nubia Red Magic. What is the ASUS ROG Phone like? How does it look? Does it have RGB lighting like the Nubia model? Is it be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor like those from Razer and Xiaomi-backed Black Shark? Does it support a refresh rate of 120Hz just like the Razer Phone? How much will it cost? More importantly, will it be released in the Philippines?

Unfortunately, there are no other confirmed details yet except that the ASUS gaming smartphone is high-end. But you bet that we’ll give you additional information as soon as we get wind of it.
