Just a few days after ASUS has made its first Android Go smartphone official, Huawei gets into the limelight as well, as the Chinese manufacturer’s first device running stock Android appears on its South African site.
The Huawei Y3 2018’s specs, design… everything, it’s all on the website. It’s as good as saying that Huawei’s own Android Go phone is official, too. This comes weeks after an unnamed company executive revealed that the handset is part of the Y series and would be available first in South Africa in May.

For those not in the know, Android Go is significant because it allows entry-level devices with at most 1GB of RAM to run Android Oreo smoothly. It saves space wherever it’s needed because apps that are designed specifically for the products take up less than 10MB of storage and work even when the user is offline. It uses less data and has the same key security features as the “full” Oreo version.
Which makes it perfect for developing markets like the Philippines — places where not a lot of people can buy flagship smartphones.

This goes without saying that the Huawei Y3 2018 is as basic as it gets. The mobile uses a MediaTek 6737M chip, the same processor that powers the P4,290 (around $83) Nokia 1, which is the only Android Go phone that’s available in the Philippines thus far.
The Y3 2018 gets only 1GB RAM and 8GB of expandable storage. Its screen measures 5 inches and has 854 x 480 resolution. It also features 8- and 2-megapixel rear and front cameras, a 2,280mAh battery, and support for 4G.
There’s no word yet on the ;Huawei Y3 2018’s price, but it should be revealed at any time soon.
