Could this mean that its successor or an even better J series model is coming really, really, really soon?
The Samsung Galaxy J7 Prime is currently on sale exclusively on e-commerce site Lazada Philippines. From its original price of P13,990 (roughly $269), the smartphone is now down to P9,990 ($192) — but only until May 31, 2018.

The Galaxy J7 Prime uses the same midrange Exynos 7870 octa-core processor that powers the P15,990 ($308) Samsung Galaxy J7 Pro. It also has a 5.5-inch full-HD screen. However, being a device that was launched one and a half years ago, the display has understandably a 16:9 aspect ratio, not the tall ones adopted by a lot of manufacturers today.

With the Samsung Galaxy J7 Prime, you get 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal memory, which is expandable up to 256GB using a microSD card. The primary and selfie cameras are rated at 13 and 8 megapixels, and there’s a 3,300mAh battery.
One thing holds the phone back: The operating system is Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow. It’s upgradeable to Nougat; even so, the official update still has not and will probably never going to be rolled out to J7 Prime customers who are based in the Philippines.

The successor, the Samsung Galaxy J7 Prime 2 — which is just more of a refresh, actually — is already running Android 7.0 Nougat. That one was launched in India in March 2018, but has not arrived on our shores yet. The last J series model that the Korean company announced in the country is the Samsung Galaxy J2 Pro (2018), which was released in February this year for a suggested retail price of P7,490 ($144).
