Rejoice, Xiaomi fans: The Redmi successor many have been eyeing will finally launch in the Philippines soon, as we at Revü exclusively reported a month ago.

Xiaomi’s local Facebook page today confirmed the news that the sequel to the Redmi Note 4 — which is none other than the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 — is, in the company’s words, “about to arrive.” We said before that the phone might launch as early as April or sometime in May, and in that we were right.

We also mentioned that the version that will be sold here is the Chinese version of the device. That global model is slightly different from the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro for India in that the former features better night cameras, but loses the 20-megapixel selfie shooter of the Pro. The Redmi Note 5 also comes preinstalled with MIUI based on Android 8.0 Oreo, as opposed to Nougat on the Indian variant.

At first blush, and even on closer inspection, they’re virtually identical. The back is made of metal and features a fingerprint reader, plus two cameras aligned vertically. On the front, you’ll find a 6-inch, 2,160 x 1,080 LCD display, and the taller aspect ratio means a bit more space for games and video content.

A Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 processor — the same silicon the ASUS ZenFone 5 comes with — runs the show on a 4,000mAh battery, which is rather generous in the category.

Domestic pricing has yet to be announced. However, expect the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 to be reasonably priced considering the 3GB RAM and 32GB storage base unit rings in at ¥1,099 (about P8,952 or $173) in China, whereas the option with 4GB RAM and 64GB storage costs ¥1,399 (P11,396 or $220). Getting the highest-end model with 6GB RAM and 64GB storage will run you ¥1,699 (P13,839 or $267).

Just like in China, it will probably be offered in black, blue, gold, and rose gold colors in the Philippines.
