Alleged Apple iPhone SE 2 shown in video. Yay or nay?

An update to the current iPhone SE, tentatively called the Apple iPhone SE 2, has been in the rumor mill for some time now. As early as 2017, reports from publications such as Taiwan’s Economic Daily News point to a launch slated for the first half of 2018.

Today, our curiosity gets piqued once again because of this video that supposedly shows the successor to the cheapest iPhone around.

The alleged Apple iPhone SE 2 in the 16-second clip features a full-glass back, suggesting that the handset will support wireless charging. The rear panel reveals one main camera, a flash, Apple’s logo, and the word “iPhone.” No more regulatory FCC logos, which are present only in older iPhones, including the original SE.

Now, look at the bottom. Headphone-jack enthusiasts may have a reason to rejoice. Apple dropped the 3.5mm connector starting with 2016’s iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus, but may just resurrect it for its affordable iMobile this year.

On the front is a look that’s almost similar to the current iPhone SE’s. You see the same screen, the same bezels, the same Touch ID sensor, and the same front-camera arrangement. This is in line with earlier reports saying that the iPhone SE 2 is tipped to keep the original’s 4-inch Retina display and will not have a dramatic makeover.

Underneath the hood, however, is an A10 Fusion chip instead of the A9. That’s the same processor that powers the Apple iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus.

The device is expected to launch in May or June, at the company’s Worldwide Developers Conference or WWDC in San Jose, California. That’s something a new regulatory filing seems to indicate as well. In case you didn’t know, a new iPhone was spotted in the Eurasian Economic Commission database a little over a week ago. Devices in the database are usually shipped a month after they get listed there.

We say it’s about time. The first iPhone SE was launched on March 21, 2016, and became available on the market on March 31. Two years? That’s a long time for those who are waiting for a refresh of the (relatively) budget iPhone model.
