Nokia X6 2018 with 19:9 display to launch April 27 - report

As confirmed by digital posters that turned up earlier this month, HMD Global will announce a Nokia X-branded smartphone on April 27. We don’t know exactly what it will be called, and whether it will be positioned above the Nokia 7 Plus or Nokia 8 Sirocco. Its 10-watt wall adapter otherwise.

And now, a new report from China attempts to shed light on the matter. Per the report, HMD will reveal the 2018 edition of the Nokia X6 later this week.

Yes, it’s another callback to Nokia’s older catalog, though the original Nokia X6 wasn’t released too long ago. Not to mention, it also featured a touchscreen, however small by today’s standards.

It’s been alleged that the new Nokia X6 will sit between the Nokia 6 and Nokia 7 Plus, and thus will be marketed as an upper-mid-tier option. It could come with a taller 19:9 display with extra-slim bezels for an immersive viewing experience. It might arrive in two variants, too — one built around the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 platform coupled with 6GB RAM and another based on MediaTek’s Helio P60 design with 4GB RAM.

The Helio P60 is the same chipset under the hood of the OPPO F7, which we found to be plenty powerful for this segment. The Snapdragon 636 is a fairly popular design and can be found on the inside of the ASUS ZenFone Max Pro M1 and ZenFone 5 and Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 (or Redmi Note 5 Pro in India), to name a few.

For taking pictures and video, the Nokia X6 revival is tipped to have a vertical dual-camera setup with Carl Zeiss optics. The front-facing camera will likely remain a mystery for now. As for the software, expect Android Oreo with Google’s latest security patch and support for future updates to the operating system, just like on newer Nokia smartphones.

Reportedly, the Nokia X6 with a Helio P60 chip inside will retail at ¥1,599 (P13,233 or $254) in China. The Snapdragon 636 variant, meanwhile, is going to be priced at ¥1,799 (P14,890 or $285).
