Just several days after Xiaomi’s Black Shark gaming phone was revealed in full, Chinese phone maker ZTE, through its sub-brand Nubia, sent out invitations for a press event on April 19 that will introduce its own entry into the possibly lucrative mobile-gaming market. Gaming as a whole is a gravy train for app designers, as exemplified by this BroadbandSearch.net guide.

And similar to how Black Shark operates as a completely separate company from Xiaomi, the upcoming phone will be announced under a newly formed brand known as Red Magic. We at Revü Philippines know this because we were also notified of the impending launch event earlier this month.
It is said that the Red Magic phone will be announced simultaneously for the Chinese and European markets. India will get the device at a later date.

In the email sent to us, Red Magic claimed that it has put “all possible specs under the microscope,” and with this knowledge “set out to create a product to bring all gamers — casual and competitive — together.”

The details were fuzzy. But the intention couldn’t be clearer: Red Magic — and by extension, ZTE — has plans to bring the fight to Razer and its next-door rival in China. In related news, Red Magic also posted invite images addressed to Razer and Black Shark on social media.

Curiously, the invites sent to the Chinese media shipped in a small red crate that is identical to the supply crate found in the wildly popular online shooter Rules of Survival: Battle Royale. Do we smell a collaboration on the way? It seems likely, but there is still a lot to figure out.

For instance, we remain clueless as to what the phone will look like, and whether it is going to launch with a controller attachment like the Black Shark. Nubia has already started giving us glimpses of the hardware. The latest teaser image shows a portion of the back of the device featuring some sort of cooling system.

The screen is believed to have an 18:9 aspect ratio and a fluid refresh rate of 120Hz, similar to the Razer Phone. Qualcomm’s mighty Snapdragon 845 processor coupled with up to 8GB of RAM will likely be found in the Red Magic gaming phone as well.
