You can now order the cheaper variant of the Xiaomi Redmi 5 on Shopee Philippines without waiting for the next flash-sale announcement.
The 2GB RAM and 16GB storage model in gold can be yours for P6,490 (around $125). It’s still affordable, but the sticker price is understandably higher than what the handset sold for when it dropped to P5,990 ($115) during Shopee’s timed promotion on April 4. No other color variants are available at the moment.
If the base configuration is too limiting for your needs, you may want to consider the 3GB RAM and 32GB model listed on Xiaomi’s official Lazada Philippines page. That Redmi 5 is now priced at P7,490 ($144) on the site, and comes in black and blue color schemes, with the latter standing out the most. Curiously enough, the 3GB RAM and 32GB storage Redmi 5 isn’t on Xiaomi’s official Shopee store at all.

Internally, it doesn’t matter which color version you get and where you purchase it from. The Xiaomi Redmi 5 features the same Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 chip inside, behind a 5.7-inch LCD display with an 18:9 aspect ratio.
And while it’s not full high definition, the screen, as we noted in our review, gets the job done. A 3,300mAh battery that charges via a microUSB port powers the device. The rear and front cameras are rated at 12 and 5 megapixels, respectively. Android 7.1 Nougat with Xiaomi’s own heavily modified user interface on top is the operating system of choice.
