The OPPO F7 is indeed coming to the Philippines, as earlier reported. And now, we have a local launch date to mark on our calendar.
April 19 is the date to circle, not too far from today. And it’s not too far from when OPPO gathered the Indian media to announce its new hero phone in the subcontinent last March 26.
The F7 is the direct sequel to the OPPO F5, which first brought the tall-screen trend to the F series of smartphones. It features a larger display with a notch and new MediaTek processor that has fresh-from-the-oven Android 8.1 Oreo baked into the hardware. It likewise touts a fresh design with a flashy, high-gloss finish at the back.

The processor of choice this time around is the latest MediaTek Helio P60, which is designed to go toe-to-toe with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 and Snapdragon 660. It’s also the first product from the Taiwanese semiconductor company that has artificial intelligence or AI built into the silicon.
Market-research firm IDC expects on-device AI to emerge as one of the hottest smartphone trends in the Philippines in the coming years. IDC earlier named OPPO as the country’s top three smartphone vendor by shipment volume in 2017.

As for the rest of the specs, the OPPO F7 is expected to arrive with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage or 6GB RAM and 64GB storage, with the option to upgrade the memory using an SD card. The rear and front cameras are rated at 16 and 25 megapixels, respectively. Keeping the lights on is a 3,400mAh sealed battery.
We’ll be attending the domestic launch event on April 19 to bring you the pricing and availability details as they become available. Let’s see if the OPPO salespeople we talked to three days ago gave us the correct price (around P18,000 [roughly $347] or similar to the Vivo V9), availability (third week of April), and preorder information (make a down payment of P1,000 or $19, and get a free Olike product).
