The higher-specced version of the Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus, priced at P9,990 (around $191), has been officially available in the Philippines for some time. However, the variant with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of built-in memory isn’t — until this week.

You may now buy the cheaper model from the Xiaomi Mi Authorized Stores at SM Megamall and TriNoma. In case you didn’t know, the one in Mandaluyong is the flagship shop, opened to the public on March 17. The latter, however, is the first Mi brick and mortar to be inaugurated in the country — a month ahead of the retail store at Megamall.
Anyhow, the newly available Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus costs only P8,490 (around $163). For P1,500 ($29) less, you get 1GB of RAM less and half the storage. But everything else is the same.

You’ll still have that 5.99-inch screen with 18:9 aspect ratio. You’ll still get 12- and 5-megapixel rear and front cameras. There’s still that big, 4,000mAh battery. And it’s still powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 processor.
What this just means is if your budget is a bit short and you don’t mind the less memory, then you can own a Redmi 5 Plus nonetheless. Of course, there’s always the Xiaomi Redmi 5 and Redmi 5A if P8,490 is still quite high for you.
