OPPO A71 (2018) with Snapdragon 450 to be priced at P7,990

As we earlier reported, the OPPO A71 (2018) will launch March 10 in the Philippines. It will replace the original A71, which arrived in stores for P8,990 (around $173) in September 2017.

(Update, March 9: It’s official! OPPO Philippines has announced that the OPPO A71 (2018), which will hit all concept stores stores nationwide tomorrow, March 10, will be priced at P7,990.) 

If you are wondering how much it will cost, a company executive with knowledge of OPPO’s local strategy said that the A71 refresh is going to retail at P7,990 ($153), or P1,000 ($19) cheaper than its predecessor.

The person also pointed us to the website of retailer CMK Cellphones and mentioned that the Chinese tech giant, which is now the No. 2 smartphone brand in Southeast Asia, will make the official-price announcement tomorrow, March 8.

At that price point, it is all but confirmed that the A71 (2018) will be billed as a value-driven selfie phone, one bolstered — and distinguished — by OPPO’s AI Beauty Recognition feature.

It won’t be a slouch, either, with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 processor at the helm. The 2GB of RAM and 16GB of storage are a bit of a letdown, but understandable given the bargain price. By comparison, the previous A71 model features 3GB of RAM, albeit mated to a dated and slower MediaTek processor.
