Or so VentureBeat‘s Evan Blass says. Given his track record of accurate leaks, we’re inclined to believe him.

If you’re disappointed at what you’re seeing, we can’t blame you. The Sony Xperia XA2, Xperia XA2 Ultra, and Xperia L2 — as what they’re apparently called — look the same as the Xperia phones before them. They still have the same boxy body with fat bezels. Sooo not 2018.

Where the change comes into play is found underneath the hood, and the biggest one is the shift from MediaTek to Qualcomm Snapdragon 630 (octa-core clocked at 2.2GHz) chips for the Xperia XA2 and XA2 Ultra midrange models.

The two Android Oreo devices should have a similar 21-megapixel, 4K-capable rear camera. However, the Sony Xperia XA2 features a 7-megapixel front-facing cam while the Ultra comes with a dual-15-megapixel-selfie-camera system that’s capable of 4K video capture.

Unlike the 5-inch, 720 x 1280 display of the Xperia XA1 — which we included on our Best Smartphones of 2017 list, by the way — the upcoming XA2 is said to have a 5.2-inch screen with same 1080 x 1920 resolution as the 6-inch XA2 Ultra.

What remains unchanged underneath are their memory configurations — 3GB/32GB for the smaller Sony and 4GB/64GB for the bigger one.

As for the entry-level Sony Xperia L2 smartphone, not much is known about it except that it still packs a 5.2-inch, 720p display and runs Android Nougat. Bummer.

These three handsets are expected to be unveiled as early as this January at CES 2018 or in February at MWC 2018. Not excited? Then you may want to watch for the unveiling of Sony’s premium phones, which are expected to have thin bezels this time.
