It has been rumored for sometime that Xiaomi will come up with an affordable 18:9 phone and join the increasing line of local (read: Cherry Mobile and CloudFone) and international companies that have done the same in recent months.
Now, the speculation can be put to bed: Xiaomi is indeed releasing the Redmi Note 5 with a wider aspect ratio, as confirmed by a listing on China’s TENAA certification website. Think the Philippines’ NTC [National Telecommunications Commission or the United States’ FCC [Federal Communications Commission].

Based on the images, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 will have slimmed-down bezels and an 18:9 display on the front for a better viewing experience. There are no signs of physical keys below the display, hinting at the company’s use of software keys to navigate the Android Nougat-based interface.

The rear panel appears to be made of metal or plastic with a metallic finish and features thin, color-matched antenna lines that run across the top and bottom. The Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 listing details the key specs of the device, and according to it, the phone will sport a 6-inch, full-resolution display and an octa-core processor clocked at 2GHz and paired with 3GB or 4GB of RAM. Storage options are either 32GB or 64GB, while the rear and front cameras are 12 and 5 megapixels, respectively. Finally, the Redmi Note 5 will pack a generous battery of 4,000mAh.
