vivo just pulled the wraps off its latest flagship contenders in China, the vivo X200 Ultra and the vivo X200s, and one of them is going extra hard on the camera setup.

First up, the vivo X200 Ultra. This is clearly positioned as the hero device, packing a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite 5G chipset paired with either 12GB or 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM and storage options scaling up to 1TB of UFS 4.1. The display is a big 6.82-inch LTPO AMOLED panel pushing a QHD+ resolution, hitting a claimed 4,500 nits peak brightness and refreshing at up to 120Hz.

vivo’s focusing its energy on the cameras here. Forget just one image signal processor; the X200 Ultra rocks two. There’s the familiar vivo V3 Plus for the heavy lifting like noise reduction, but now it’s joined by the new vivo VS1 chip, dedicated to handling exposure, focus, and image stacking before passing the data along.

On the hardware side of the vivo X200 Ultra, you get a 50-megapixel main camera using Sony’s 1/1.28-inch LYT-818 sensor behind an f/1.7 lens. That’s flanked by a 200-megapixel periscope telephoto using Samsung’s 1/1.4-inch ISOCELL HP9 sensor for an 85mm equivalent focal length, and another 50MP LYT-818 sensor for ultrawide shots. Even the selfie cam is 50 megapixels.

All rear cameras can apparently shoot 4K video at 120fps for slow motion, with 4K 60fps supporting Dolby Vision. To really lean into the camera vibe, vivo added a dedicated “V key” on the side, positioned like a shutter button and customizable.

The photography kit, assembled

If that wasn’t enough camera focus, vivo is offering an optional photography set. This bundle includes an add-on teleconverter lens that offers an extra 2.35x zoom on top of the existing telephoto, pushing the equivalent focal length to 200mm. The kit also throws in a case that attaches to a grip with a USB-C port and its own 2,300mAh battery, plus straps. It feels like vivo is daring you to leave your mirrorless at home.

Rounding out the vivo X200 Ultra are a large 6,000mAh battery with 90-watt wired and 40-watt wireless charging and the company’s OriginOS based on Android 15. The smartphone comes in black and red, as well a white version that looks like a Rimowa luggage.

The prices start at ¥6,499 (roughly P50,436 or $891) for the 12/256GB model, climbing to ¥7,999 (P62,014 or $1,097) for a 16GB/1TB version that also gets satellite-communication capabilities. If you want that full photography set, it’s bundled only with the top-tier smartphone for ¥9,699 (P75,202 or $1,330).

Then there’s the vivo X200s. This one feels more like an iterative update to last year’s vivo X100s, skipping a Pro variant this time. It’s a bit smaller, built around a 6.67-inch AMOLED display with a 1260p resolution and 120Hz refresh rate. Inside, it swaps Qualcomm for MediaTek’s Dimensity 9400 Plus processor, again with 12GB and 16GB RAM options and storage up to 1TB across five configurations.

The camera setup here is less extreme than the Ultra but still sounds capable: a 50-megapixel f/1.6 main, a 50-megapixel f/2.6 telephoto offering 3x optical zoom, and a 50-megapixel f/2.0 ultrawide, plus a 32-megapixel front shooter. The big headline for the X200s, though, is its battery — a massive 6,200mAh capacity, which vivo claims is the largest ever in its X series. It keeps the same 90-watt wired and 40-watt wireless charging speeds as the Ultra. It also runs OriginOS on Android 15, complete with regional features like an AI spam-call filter and a local take on Circle to Search. Other bits include 360-degree NFC and a vapor chamber for cooling.

The vivo X200s is available in black, white, green, and lavender purple, starting at ¥4,199 (P32,564 or $575). Preorders are open now in China, with sales kicking off this Friday, April 25.

Now, the catch for us outside of China: Don’t hold your breath, because word has it that it’s unlikely either the vivo X200 Ultra or the vivo X200s, which are co-engineered with German optics manufacturer Zeiss, will see an official global release. So, while the specs are intriguing, especially the Ultra’s camera ambitions and the X200s’ battery life, they’re likely destined to remain exclusive to their home market. We’d love to be wrong, though.
