TECNO isn’t just knocking on the door of the AI-powered smartphone scene in the Philippines; it’s kicking it down today, April 23, with the launch of the TECNO CAMON 40 Series.
Enlisting Filipino pop royalty Sarah Geronimo as its ambassador, the brand is making a loud statement that it’s serious about bringing advanced imaging and AI features to the competitive local market, aiming to make “perfect snaps” effortless.
Fresh off its global reveal where we at Revü saw the lineup flexing its AI muscles at MWC 2025 in Barcelona, Spain, TECNO is confirming that three models are hitting Philippine shores starting April 24: the top-tier TECNO CAMON 40 Premier 5G, the high-performing TECNO CAMON 40 Pro 5G, and the base TECNO CAMON 40. As speculated in our earlier coverage based on e-commerce listings, the CAMON 40 Pro 4G variant seems to be sitting this round out, suggesting a strategic focus on 5G or specific price brackets for the local launch.
The core pitch revolves around embedding AI deeply into the user experience, moving beyond simple photo filters. The star feature is arguably the “AI One-Tap FlashSnap.” The company claims this uses AI to optimize camera startup and continuous shooting, letting you take sharp photos of fast-moving subjects — like Sarah Geronimo’s energetic performances or, as she puts it, “tons of photos of my fur baby” — without the usual blur. AI algorithms also analyze motion and cherry-pick the best frames, working to ensure you nail those fleeting shots. Powering this on the Premier 5G is the MediaTek Dimensity 8350 Ultimate, which TECNO boasts delivers a hefty 330% jump in AI performance compared to previous chips.
Photography hardware gets a notable boost too, especially on the CAMON 40 Premier 5G. It packs a 50-megapixel Sony LYT-701 main sensor promising better light gathering, paired with a 50-megapixel ultrawide and a 50-megapixel periscope telephoto. TECNO even talks up a shutter speed faster than a human blink. The CAMON 40 Pro 5G isn’t slouching either, already bagging Dxomark’s “Smart Choice Label” for 2025 and ranking number one in their sub-$600 (sub-P34,000) global camera tests — a significant nod to its imaging capabilities right out of the gate. Across the series, TECNO is also pushing its updated Universal Tone tech for more accurate and inclusive skin-tone representation in portraits.

Beyond the camera, AI permeates other functions. The “360° AI Call Assistant” promises AI-driven noise cancellation, real-time call translation (even via Bluetooth headphones on Android, a claimed first), auto-answer, and call summaries. AI tools for writing assistance, image extending, object removal (AI Eraser 2.0), and Google’s Circle to Search are also part of the package, running on the brand’s HiOS 15 based on Android 15.
TECNO hasn’t forgotten durability. The TECNO CAMON 40 Premier 5G and TECNO CAMON 40 Pro 5G models boast IP68 and even IP69 ratings, meaning they should handle dust and hot water jets, while the base TECNO CAMON 40 gets a respectable IP66 splash resistance. Corning’s Gorilla Glass 7i provides screen protection, and the company touts 360-degree drop resistance and TÜV Rheinland certification for 72-month lag-free performance on the higher-end models. Design-wise, they retain the familiar side-axis camera module look but add a “Swan-neck Curve” for a supposedly more ergonomic feel.
