Coolest OPPO yet? OPPO K13 Turbo might have built-in cooling fan

It looks like OPPO might be bringing something really cool (literally!) to the Chinese market soon.

A fresh leak swirling around Weibo — this time courtesy of reliable tipster Digital Chat Station — suggests an upcoming phone called the OPPO K13 Turbo. Its rumored killer feature has us hyped: It’s potentially the first OPPO smartphone with a built-in cooling fan!

Yes, you read that right. This approach is reminiscent of nubia’s RedMagic gaming phones, which also feature internal active cooling, unlike the passive cooling methods used by brands like ASUS with its ROG Phone series.

If this rumor holds true, then the OPPO K13 Turbo could be one of the rare non-gaming-branded smartphones to include a built-in fan. We usually see this tech on high-performance flagships, designed to keep temperatures down during intense gaming sessions or heavy tasks. Adding to its potentially unconventional design, another intriguing rumored hardware feature is the integration of RGB lighting on the back of the handset.

And why the fan, you ask? Well, the Chinese tipster also hints that the OPPO K13 Turbo won’t be a slouch in the performance department. It’s said to be running on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset, the same silicon powering many of 2024’s flagship Android devices. Packing that kind of powerhouse processor generates a lot of heat, so adding an active fan makes perfect sense if the company wants users to experience sustained peak performance without throttling.

For those familiar with OPPO and OnePlus’ recent history, this might sound familiar. The K series often shares DNA with OnePlus Ace models, which sometimes launch globally or in markets like the Philippines as OnePlus Nord models. Remember the K12 that just launched? It’s essentially the OnePlus Nord CE4 available in global markets. Before that, the K11 was the basis for the OnePlus Nord CE3.

So, could OPPO’s K13 Turbo be a rebranded version of an upcoming OnePlus Ace handset — perhaps the anticipated OnePlus Ace 3 Pro that’s also rumored to have high-end specs? It’s a strong possibility.

For now, these are all still leaks and rumors, so take them with a grain of salt. But the thought of an OPPO phone with flagship power and active cooling is definitely intriguing. We’ll be keeping our eyes peeled for more details.
