HONOR is back at it again, and the company is about to drop a phone that’s even tougher than any of its previous releases — a tall order if you’re familiar with HONOR’s X series.

The HONOR X9c 5G, the sequel to last year’s HONOR X9b 5G, is hitting the Philippines on January 10. It’s looking like another smash hit, both literally and figuratively.

As usual, you can stream the launch event live on HONOR’s Facebook page. But let’s be real, the main event here is the smartphone itself, and this thing is being hyped as the brand’s “toughest” device yet.

Building on the X lineup’s rep for being able to take a beating, the new HONOR X9c 5G rocks an “all-angle triple defense” feature. Translation? This thing is practically begging to be dropped. It’s got that coveted SGS 5-Star rating for Drop Resistance, meaning it can handle a tumble from up to two meters. Plus, it boasts an IP65M certification. That “M” is key, because it means you can blast it with water jets from any direction and it will probably just shrug it off.

Our ‘HONOR X9c 5G vs boiling water’ video! More teasers of durability tests, including a 500-ft drop test, can be seen on HONOR’s Facebook page. Disclaimer: They’re all conducted under controlled conditions — and for demonstration purposes only. These may involve extreme scenarios that are not part of typical device usage, and should not be replicated. Attempting similar tests on your device may result in damage, void the warranty, or cause injury. Always handle your unit with care, and follow the manufacturer’s guidelines for proper use and maintenance

Perhaps more notably this time around, HONOR is claiming the X9c 5G can handle extreme temperatures, from a bone-chilling -40°C to a scorching 70°C. That’s right — this handset is ridiculously heat-resistant, supposedly surpassing its predecessors and pretty much every other phone out there.

In fact, HONOR Philippines is so confident in the model’s durability that the company challenged us to literally boil our review unit. Seriously. You gotta see it to believe it. Check out the embedded video where we dunk our unit in water reaching 100 degrees — not once, but twice, because our camera flaked on us the first time.

Spoiler alert: The HONOR X9c 5G survived both boiling sessions like a champ, still perfectly usable, and showing absolutely zero signs of having been subjected to two hot-tub torture tests. Color us seriously impressed.

We’re gonna be putting this smartphone through the wringer even more in the coming days (with HONOR’s blessing, obviously). But honestly, based on this initial boiling test? We’re pretty sure this thing can survive whatever we throw at it — and we mean that literally.

Stay tuned for our full review when the embargo lifts, but let’s just say early signs point to the HONOR X9c 5G being worthy of the “toughest HONOR phone yet” title.
