You probably already know that HONOR‘s latest “toughest phone yet,” the HONOR X9c 5G, is hitting the Philippines on January 10. But before the official launch, the company decided to kick off 2025 by, well, literally dropping smartphones — and setting a new world record in the process.

Yes. In a marketing stunt that’s equal parts genius and bonkers, the HONOR X9c 5G just snagged a Guinness World Record for “The Most People Performing a Mobile Phone Drop Test Simultaneously.”

We’re talking 264 people — a mix of media practitioners, influencers, and HONOR’s own community — chucking their units onto pavement at the same time. The previous record involved 250 participants. We were there, we saw it, we even joined in the smartphone-icide. And after surviving a recent boiling test, we can confirm: This thing is truly built different.

“A win for HONOR is a win for the Filipinos,” declared HONOR Philippines vice president Stephen Cheng. “But we still have big news to share with everyone, so stay tuned on January 10.”

We’ll also update this post with a reel showing what happened at the event as soon as we receive a clip of everyone dropping their HONOR X9c 5G units at the event

The HONOR X9c 5G, the follow-up to last year’s already-tough HONOR X9b 5G, is landing in the Philippines via a livestream on the brand’s Facebook page. Like its predecessors, it’s built to take a beating, but it now boasts an “all-angle triple defense” feature. Basically, it should be able to survive pretty much everything life throws at it. It’s rocking that coveted SGS 5-Star rating for Drop Resistance, meaning it can survive a tumble from up to two meters.

Plus, the HONOR X9c 5G arrives with an IP65M certification. The “M” is crucial, because it means this device can survive water-jet assaults. But here’s where things get really wild: HONOR is claiming the X9c 5G can handle temperatures from a frigid -40°C to a scorching 70°C. This means the handset is ridiculously heat-resistant, supposedly blowing past its predecessors and pretty much every other phone on the market.

Stay tuned for our full review of the HONOR X9c 5G when the embargo lifts on launch day.
