HONOR‘s GT line, the company’s gaming-focused foray into the increasingly competitive smartphone arena, just got a refresh.
Meet the HONOR GT, the successor to last year’s China-only HONOR 90 GT and a phone that’s clearly gunning for the price-to-performance sweet spot. There’s no word yet on a wider release for the HONOR GT outside of China, but fingers crossed it comes to the Philippines and beyond.
This isn’t just a spec bump over the previous model; HONOR has packed some serious specs under the hood. We’re talking Qualcomm’s flagship-grade Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset, a custom cooling solution designed to prevent thermal throttling during marathon gaming sessions, and a hefty 5,300mAh silicon-carbon battery that supports blazing-fast 100-watt wired charging. So yes, this thing should be fast.
Pricing in China starts at ¥2,199 (around $302 or P17,806 converted) for the base 12GB/256GB configuration, climbing to ¥3,299 ($453 or P26,713) for the top-tier 16GB/1TB trim. It’s available right now on HONOR’s Chinese website, with shipments scheduled to begin tomorrow, December 18. Color options include a glossy Ice White as well as matte finishes in Phantom Black and Aurora Green.
As you can see, the design of the HONOR GT leaves little room for interpretation — this is a gaming phone through and through. Flat edges, a flat display, and design elements that scream “racing-inspired” make it perfectly clear who this device is built for.
HONOR is pushing the AI angle here, too. This unit boasts some AI-powered features, including an automatic eye-comfort mode, an automatic image enhancer and color tuning for the display, and a potentially useful wet-hand touch mode. There’s even an interesting feature that claims to detect motion sickness during in-car gaming and, even more curiously, promote melatonin production for better sleep.
To keep all that power in check, HONOR has implemented a 3D cooling system, featuring a 5,514 mm² vapor chamber heatsink, graphite elements, and 9W thermal conductive gel. Because heat is the enemy of performance. Rounding out the specs are a 6.7-inch FHD+ AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate, a 50-megapixel main camera, a 12-megapixel ultrawide, and a 16-megapixel front-facing camera.
The HONOR GT is clearly aimed at mobile gamers, packing 2023’s fastest Snapdragon silicon alongside a suite of gaming-focused perks. Whether all those features add up to a truly compelling experience remains to be seen, but on paper, it looks promising.
