Microsoft’s Xbox Cloud Gaming has always been a particularly tempting proposition. Who wouldn’t want to play high-end games anywhere with just an internet connection for a reasonable monthly fee? And anyone who knows us here on this site knows we’ve long championed it.
But until now, it’s been shackled to the Xbox Game Pass library. Well, that changed recently. In a move that seems like it should have happened ages ago (and was hinted at earlier this year), Microsoft is unleashing Xbox Cloud Gaming for select titles you actually own. Yup, no more being limited to just the Game Pass catalog. Fire up your phone, laptop, or even your smart TV, and dive into a growing list of supported games.

However, before you get too excited, there are a couple of caveats. First, this is limited to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscribers. Sorry, Game Pass Core and PC Game Pass folk, you’re out of luck for now. Second, the list of supported titles is curated. Fifty games are available at launch, with heavy hitters like Assassin’s Creed: Mirage, Cyberpunk 2077, Baldur’s Gate 3, The Witcher 3, and NBA 2K25 leading the charge.
Oh, and another thing: you need to be in one of the 28 countries where Xbox Game Pass Ultimate is officially available. But then again, a little VPN trickery never hurt anyone, right? To be clear, we’re not advocating for that; just saying that it works for those who live in the Philippines.
Microsoft promises this is just the beginning. Next year, the company is planning to expand this feature to Xbox consoles and the Windows Xbox app. Imagine firing up your Series X and streaming a game like Dragon’s Dogma 2 or Elden Ring without needing a massive install.
Even better, many of these newly streamable games are on sale right now for Black Friday. Grab NBA 2K25, which we reviewed last month, at a discount and ball out from anywhere with a decent Wi-Fi or data connection.
So, is this the cloud-gaming revolution we’ve been waiting for? No, not quite — or at least, not yet. But it’s a big step in the right direction, and a sign that Microsoft is finally getting serious about Xbox Cloud Gaming and its potential.
Now, if you’ll excuse us, we’ve got some basketball action to stream on our HONOR Magic V3.
