Remember that cute electric compact SUV from Vietnamese automaker VinFast, the VF5, that debuted at CES 2022? Well, it just got a whole lot more interesting for Filipino drivers.

VinFast has slashed the price of the VF5 in the Philippines, making this city-friendly crossover a more compelling option for those who are looking for an affordable EV.

For a limited time, you can purchase the VinFast VF5 on the local market for only P880,000 (roughly $15,268 converted) with a monthly battery subscription and P1,050,000 ($18,217) with the battery included. Considering it launched at P992,000 ($17,210) just a few months ago, that’s a serious discount. The offer is good until November 15.

Every VF5 comes with a home charger — and they’ll even install it for you — floor mats, and a tire repair kit. Oh, and you’ve got your choice of four stylish colors: VinFast Blue, Neptune Grey, Crimson Red, and Brahimny White.

As one of VinFast’s most affordable offerings, the VF5 is a compact vehicle measuring 3,967mm long, 1,72 mm wide, and 1,578mm tall. It features a front-mounted electric motor that delivers 134 horsepower and 135Nm of torque, drawing power from a 37.23kWh lithium-iron-phosphate battery. This setup allows the VF5 to accelerate from 0 to 100km/h in 10.9 seconds and reach a top speed of 130km/h.

VinFast announces its VF5 deal for the Philippine market

VinFast claims a driving range of 326km on a full charge using the NEDC standard. Take note that a vehicle’s NEDC range is determined through a controlled battery test rather than real-world driving conditions. Charging the VF5 from 10% to 70% should only take 30 minutes, according to the automaker.

Inside, the VF5 boasts a modern, minimalist design. An 8-inch touchscreen handles infotainment duties, complete with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. You also get a 7-inch digital instrument cluster. Premium leather seats, six airbags, and a PM2.5 air filter round out the key features in the cabin.

With its new lower price, the VinFast VF5 suddenly finds itself in a much sweeter spot than when it launched in the country. It offers a compelling blend of style, practicality, and affordability, making it a serious contender in the burgeoning Philippine EV market.

If the VF5 still stretches your budget, don’t worry. VinFast has an even more affordable option: the VF3. This mini EV, which should hit local roads beginning this November, starts at just P645,000 ($11,190) with a battery subscription — and, dare we say, might be even more fun to zip around town in.

We’ll share more about the two EVs in an upcoming video.
