Get those wallets ready! Apple today introduced its latest iPhone series — the iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro, and iPhone 16 Pro Max — alongside the Apple Watch Series 10, Apple Watch Ultra 2 in black titanium, Apple AirPods 4, and AirPods Max with USB-C in new colors.

(Update, October 4: The Apple iPhone 16 series’ Philippine preorder and release dates, as well as key cash-out info for Globe Telecom subscribers, are out!)

The U.S. tech giant says the new iPhones mark a significant leap forward in smartphone technology, claiming that they’re “built from the ground up” for Apple Intelligence.

Apple Intelligence: The future of the iPhone (and Siri)

Apple Intelligence is at the heart of the iPhone 16 lineup, offering a suite of AI-powered features designed to make your life easier.

Siri, which is supposedly now more intuitive than ever, can understand complex requests and maintain context across conversations. Imagine asking Siri to book a restaurant near your hotel during your upcoming business trip. It will understand the context of your request, access your travel itinerary, and make the reservation seamlessly.

Yes, it should that easy thanks to a revamped Siri, powered by Apple Intelligence.

Apple iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max

True to the leaks, the company’s top-shelf duo takes things to the next level with its larger displays (extending up to 6.9 inches), improved ultrawide cameras, and telephoto lenses. On paper, these upgrades make them ideal for photography and videography enthusiasts.

A major camera improvement is the arrival of the telephoto lens on the smaller 6.3-inch iPhone 16 Pro, a feature that was exclusive to the iPhone 15 Pro Max last year. The telephoto lens would allow both models of the iPhone 16 Pro models to offer 5x optical zoom and 25x digital zoom.

The iPhone 16 Pro models summarized in a video

The new A18 Pro chip, specifically designed for the Pro models, reportedly provides a substantial 15% performance boost over its predecessor, the A17 Pro. It’s probably the fastest chip in any smartphone to date, but we’ll have to wait for benchmark results as well as real-world tests to verify this.

One of the standout features of the A18 Pro is its enhanced ray-tracing capabilities. Together with the powerful GPU, the A18 Pro is claimed to deliver up to two times better ray-tracing performance, resulting in more realistic and immersive graphics, particularly in graphically intensive games.

Beyond its graphics prowess, the processor also adds an upgraded 16-core Neural Engine with 17% more memory bandwidth. This enhancement will be crucial for supporting Apple’s upcoming Apple Intelligence features, ensuring that AI-powered tasks run smoothly and efficiently on your smartphone.
