TECNO, a brand that’s been making a splash in the foldable game recently, just dropped its latest concept smartphone, the TECNO Phantom Ultimate 2.
This tri-fold device is a testament to the brand’s commitment to research and development, following the announcement of last year’s Phantom Ultimate rollable concept as well as the release of the Phantom V Fold and Phantom V Flip in the Philippines.
Unlike those products, the TECNO Phantom Ultimate 2 boasts a massive 10-inch LTPO OLED display that unfolds to a tablet-sized format. With a 2,880p resolution and a 4:3 aspect ratio, the panel promises a large-screen viewing experience without the bulk of a tablet. Additionally, the brand claims the Phantom Ultimate 2 is the first foldable that uses TDDI [touch and display driver integration] technology, which combines the display driver and touch sensor into a single chip, resulting in improved touchscreen responsiveness.
Of course, this screen isn’t just for show; it’s designed to enhance your productivity as well. The expansive 10-inch display offers ample space for multitasking, allowing you to run three or more apps simultaneously on the screen.

TECNO’s tri-fold concept
TECNO has already envisioned several unique use cases for its rare foldable, including one scenario that involves folding the bottom half of the phone into a keyboard for a laptop-like experience. Another interesting use case sees the device folded in half to create two equal-sized displays facing opposite directions. This setup would be ideal for presentations.
Another impressive aspect of the Phantom Ultimate 2 is its form factor. Despite its large screen, the device is remarkably thin when folded, measuring just 11mm. This is made possible by TECNO’s proprietary dual-hinge mechanism, which is certified for at least 300,000 folds. The company has also developed the thinnest battery cover on any handset, measuring only 0.25mm.
While TECNO hasn’t announced specific launch plans for the Phantom Ultimate 2, it’s clear that this tri-fold concept showcases the brand’s vision for the future of smartphones. With its innovative design and impressive specifications, it could be a game-changer in the foldable smartphone market. Here’s hoping a consumer device based on this concept is already in the works.
Interestingly, Huawei has been rumored to announce its very own tri-fold foldable next month, so it probably won’t be long before we see more innovative options like the TECNO Phantom Ultimate 2 hit the market.
