It’s official: A more affordable Reno12 series model is on its way to the local market.

(Update, August 20: The OPPO Reno12 F 5G is official in the Philippines! Check out what its camera and AI features can do.)

The OPPO Reno12 F 5G is launching in the Philippines on August 20, and it’s expected to have a more accessible price tag than the OPPO Reno12 5G and Reno12 Pro 5G phones the company unveiled last month. Local pricing and availability details will be announced on the 20th as well.

Recall that the predecessor, the Reno11 F 5G, was priced at P18,999 (around $334 converted) at launch for the sole configuration offering 8GB of physical RAM and 256GB of storage.

A more accessible AI-driven camera phone

Despite being the more wallet-friendly option — at least, compared to its stablemates — the Reno12 F 5G will offer the same AI-powered imaging features as the more expensive smartphones in the lineup.

We’re talking software perks like AI LinkBoost and the upgraded AI Eraser 2.0, which now boasts the Remove People function, making it easier than ever for users — even complete smartphone newbies — to remove unwanted objects and photobombers in their photos. OPPO‘s fantastic AI Studio app makes a return. With the power of generative AI, AI Studio lets you transform yourself into a digital avatar, complete with a variety of styles.

In our review of the Reno12 5G, we had this to say about the company’s hit app: “The results generated by AI Studio are undeniably impressive. The quality surpasses similar apps, even those locked behind paywalls or subscription fees. OPPO’s AI Studio stands out as a leader in this area. Hopefully, it will be made available on other OPPO devices to broaden its reach.”

And wouldn’t you know it? A month after writing that, we’re getting AI Studio on a more budget-focused Reno12 device. Good times.

Set for an August 20 release

A fresh look that will still turn heads

On the outside, the OPPO Reno12 F 5G takes some visual cues from its predecessor, sporting a more angular design with flat sides while also moving to another direction with regard to the camera module. The latest release now has a watch-inspired circular camera system at the back, reminiscent of a number of competing models in the segment. The number of cameras — as well as their functions — is retained from the previous generation, except this time, the main image sensor is a 50-megapixel unit that promises better-looking portraits and low-light shots.

And while the Reno12 F 5G might be the budget-friendly sibling, it doesn’t skimp on style. The brand’s latest midranger is a looker, available in eye-popping Olive Green and Amber Orange. The latter is a direct nod to Pantone’s 2024 Color of the Year, Peach Fuzz, with its pink and orange gradient and shimmery flame effect.

The Reno12 F 5G is IP64 rated, meaning it can handle sweaty palms and a splash or two. OPPO has also beefed up the phone’s durability with its All-Round Armor protection featuring a high-strength alloy frame. It’s tough as nails, but still manages to look sleek. Since we’re on the topic, it’s also great that OPPO has thrown in a premium, color-matching silicone case in the box to protect your handset from drops and dings. It’s not every day you get such a nice-looking case bundled with a non-flagship.

With its impressive AI features, sleek design, and added bonuses like the included case, the OPPO Reno12 F 5G is shaping up to be another contender in the ultra-competitive midrange market. We’ll be back with our full review when the embargo lifts on August 20.
