Transsion Holdings sub-brand Itel has launched a new smartphone in the Philippines, and — surprise, surprise! — it’s another contender in the bargain basement.

The Itel A50C is now available on the local market, retailing for as low as P3,099 (around $54 converted) on the brand’s official store on Shopee. Normally, the phone carries a suggested retail price of P4,599 ($81) for the model with 2GB of physical RAM (expandable up to 4GB via virtual RAM expansion) and 32GB of storage.

The A50C runs Android 14 Go Edition out of the box for a better all-around user experience. If you’re not familiar, Android Go is basically a slimmed-down version of Android made for devices with not a lot of power. It’s like a lighter, faster version of the OS that doesn’t need as much juice to run.

Think of it as a diet for your unit. It helps smartphones with small brains and not a lot of storage space to still work pretty smoothly. Google made sure the apps you use every day, like Maps and Search, work well without hogging all your handset’s battery life.

Visually, the Itel A50C looks similar to the company’s other A series models, except this one has a single camera at the back — and of the 8-megapixel variety — and sports a matte finish to minimize fingerprints. It supports face unlock, as well as biometric authentication courtesy of a side-mounted fingerprint scanner, which is always a welcome feature at this price point.

The Itel A50C is equipped with a Unisoc T603 octa-core processor built on a 12nm architecture. This chipset, shared with the A50 and A70 models, provides the device’s computational muscle. Graphics are handled by a Mali-G57 GPU.

Display-wise, the A50C features a 6.56-inch HD panel, offering a pretty sizable viewing experience for this segment. For selfies, you get a 5-megapixel front camera at your disposal. Keeping the smartphone powered is a 4,000mAh battery that supports convenient USB-C charging.
