Both foldable phones are now available for purchase online in China on Xiaomi’s official channels, including Xiaomi Mall, Xiaomi Home, Xiaomi Tmall’s official store, and Xiaomi JD’s flagship store.

Xiaomi Mix Flip: Xiaomi’s first clamshell foldable

After weeks of teasing, Xiaomi has finally entered the flip-phone market with the Mix Flip, its first foldable smartphone with a vertical hinge. This new clamshell model directly competes with the recently launched Samsung Galaxy Z Flip6, which is priced from P70,990 ($1,216) in the Philippines.

The Mix Flip boasts a large, 6.86-inch foldable LTPO OLED display offering a 1.5K resolution and a smooth 120Hz refresh rate. When folded shut, the device’s compact size promises effortless pocketability. But the real head-turner here might be the sizable 4-inch outer display. This dwarfs the offerings on most other flip phones, including Samsung’s Galaxy Z Flip6, allowing for more convenient interaction without needing to unfold the entire unit.

Under the hood, the Xiaomi Mix Flip packs the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor, the same powerhouse chip powering the flagship Xiaomi 14 series. This ensures the smartphone can handle even the most demanding tasks with ease. Xiaomi has also equipped the Mix Flip with UFS 4.0 storage and LPDDR5X RAM, promising blazing-fast loading times and seamless multitasking.

Keeping this model juiced is a 4,780mAh battery, which should offer solid day-long usage for most users. When it comes time to recharge, the Mix Flip supports 67-watt wired charging, ensuring you’re not left tethered to an outlet for long.

Xiaomi Mix Fold 4: A serious foldable contender

Marking a significant push into the foldable market, Xiaomi unveiled the Mix Fold 4 alongside its first clamshell foldable. The device sets its sights on the title of thinnest foldable ever, boasting a remarkably slim 9.47mm profile when folded — or a mere 4.59mm unfolded — and a weight of just 226 grams. This impressive feat outshines its predecessor and rivals other foldable flagships, including the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold6 (12.1mm, 239 grams).

Xiaomi credits its proprietary hinge technology for the slim design. This hinge trims down both width and weight by over 11% and 16% respectively, compared to the previous generation. Additionally, high-strength carbon fiber contributes to the lightweight construction. Xiaomi also addresses concerns regarding the Mix Fold 4’s durability with an IPX8 certification. This means the Mix Fold 4 can handle a dip in freshwater for up to 30 minutes at depths of up to 1.5 meters.

Unfolding this foldable phone reveals a spacious 7.98-inch LTPO OLED inner display with an adaptive refresh rate that dynamically adjusts between 1Hz and 120Hz for optimal battery life and performance. The screen boasts a peak brightness of 3,000 nits, ensuring reasonable visibility even in bright conditions.

Powering the Xiaomi Mix Fold 4 is the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor, as expected, backed by a 5,000mAh battery with support for 67-watt wired charging. On the camera front, the brand has co-developed a quad-camera system with Leica, further enhancing the phone’s multimedia capabilities. The device runs Android 14 with Xiaomi’s custom HyperOS skin on top.

With its focus on thinness, powerful internals, and a refined hinge design, the Mix Fold 4 positions itself as a compelling competitor in the foldable market. However, Xiaomi has yet to announce availability in international markets, including the Philippines. We’ll be sure to keep you updated if there are any developments regarding a global release.
