It’s confirmed: Huawei is set to officially announce a new clamshell phone, the nova Flip, on August 5.
(Update, August 7: The Huawei nova Flip is here!)
This marks the technology giant’s fourth foldable phone and the first under its nova lineup. Hot on the heels of the Huawei Pocket 2, which launched earlier this year, the Huawei nova Flip is set to debut in China at 7 p.m. local time.
Expect a more wallet-friendly price tag compared to the premium Pocket series. The nova Flip is aiming for a more accessible entry point into the world of foldable devices; nova products are targeted at the youth market after all. Recall that the company’s first foray into the clamshell space, the Huawei P50 Pocket, arrived in the Philippines with a P69,999 (roughly $1,194 converted) launch price in 2022.

Huawei nova Flip teaser video
Huawei has enlisted the help of Jackson Yee, a member of the wildly popular Chinese boy band TFBoys, to promote the upcoming flip foldable. A teaser video dropped on Weibo gives us our first glimpse of Yee sending a Morse code with the smartphone. And the decoded message? A simple yet intriguing “Flip.”
The company has also teased the Huawei nova Flip with a series of images that gives us a pretty good look at what to expect. A standout feature is the small square cover screen, a departure from the circular displays we’ve seen on the brand’s previous foldables. The device will also sport a dual camera setup at the back and come in four colors, with green being the apparent star of the show.
Huawei is aiming for a premium look with the nova Flip, opting for a sleek metal frame. The phone’s main display sports a modern hole-punch cutout for the selfie camera, while the power button doubles as a convenient fingerprint scanner. While green is undoubtedly the hero color this time around, Huawei is also catering to diverse tastes with black, pink, and white options.
But the nova Flip isn’t coming alone. Huawei is also expected to unveil new tablets and laptops, including the highly anticipated gaming-focused MateBook GT 14 laptop.
