vivo has introduced the vivo V40 series in Europe. The announcement coincided with the first match of the UEFA Euro 2024 Championship in Germany, which the brand is sponsoring.

The launch brings two new models to the international stage — the vivo V40 5G and vivo V40 Lite 5G. On paper, both boast some intriguing specs, but there’s a curious omission in the retail box: a charging adapter.
The vivo V40 5G takes center stage with its 4nm Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 chipset, a massive 5,500mAh battery that supports 80-watt fast charging (with a separately sold adapter), and a bright 6.78-inch AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate.
Camera duties are handled by 50-megapixel image sensors on both the front and back, bolstered by vivo’s ongoing partnership with ZEISS, a German optics maker. In Europe, the vivo V40 5G is officially priced at €599 (around $643 or P37,718). It will be offered in Stellar Silver and Nebula Purple colors in the region beginning in July.
The vivo V40 Lite 5G, on the other hand, seems like a familiar face — and with good reason. This smartphone appears to be a rebranded vivo V30e 5G, which is already available in the Philippines for P17,999 ($307). It sports the same Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 chip, 50-megapixel rear camera, and 32-megapixel selfie shooter. Even the battery and charging specs match up, leading us to believe it’s more of a regional variant than a truly new device.
The Lite version comes in at a more budget-friendly €399 ($428 or P25,124). It’s already available in several European countries in Classy Brown and Dreamy White colorways.

The lack of a charging adapter is the real head-scratcher here. While some manufacturers are touting eco-friendly benefits, it feels like a cost-cutting measure at the expense of user convenience. Especially considering European markets where charger-less iPhones have caused some frustration, this move by vivo might not go over smoothly.
vivo Philippines is yet to confirm if these phones will make it across the Pacific, but based on past releases, the standard V40 seems like a strong contender. The vivo V40 Lite 5G, however, could be a hard sell considering the near-identical V30e 5G already exists on the local market.
