MediaTek has solidified its position as the No. 1 vendor in mobile-chip shipments worldwide, the company revealed at a recent gathering with the Philippine media. This impressive feat marks nearly four years of continuous dominance, starting from the third quarter of 2020.
The company highlighted the Southeast Asian region, one of the three markets where it captured a total addressable market share exceeding 50% in smartphones last year. The figures paint a clear picture: MediaTek understands the needs of the modern tech consumer, particularly in a region like Southeast Asia, where a high demand for sophisticated devices speaks volumes about the quality of MediaTek’s offerings.
Its current flagship chip, the Dimensity 9300 Plus, brings higher clock speeds alongside faster APU performance compared to last year’s Dimensity 9300 and powers the Vivo X100s series for the Chinese market. The Dimensity 9300 Plus is also expected to be at the helm of Xiaomi’s soon-to-be-announced Redmi K70 Ultra.
According to MediaTek, the future is shaped by artificial intelligence — generative AI in particular. The chip manufacturer sees immense potential in AI to revolutionize various applications and drive efficiency. As AI continues its rapid evolution, MediaTek has pledged to leverage its expertise to craft solutions that cater to the ever-growing demands of consumers and industries worldwide.
“We see ourselves very well-positioned as an enabler of this generative AI growth across so many applications — not just smartphones, Chromebooks, and smart TVs, but also automotive and smart complex solutions that will be heavily influenced by AI technology,” said MediaTek vice president of corporate marketing Finbarr Moynihan. “Additionally, MediaTek is focusing on cloud-data centers. The cloud and data center infrastructure for AI is going to be critical, and we see significant opportunities for MediaTek there.”
Generative AI, with its potential to spark innovation across industries, is a key area of focus for MediaTek. The chip maker recently announced the expansion of its GenAI ecosystem, partnering with Baidu and LLama, among other AI assistants, to empower on-device generative AI with real-time features like object removal and image generation.
With its unwavering commitment to innovation and a keen eye on future trends, MediaTek promises to stay ahead of the curve. By combining its market dominance with a deep focus on AI, particularly generative AI, the Taiwanese company seems well-positioned to shape the technological landscape for years to come. Consumers can expect even more powerful and intelligent devices powered by MediaTek, which has promised to continuously push the boundaries of what’s possible, particularly in the realm of mobile devices.
