OPPO Reno10 5G features that are worth checking out

OPPO introduced the Reno10 Series 5G in the Philippines recently, adding three visually pleasing — and similarly designed — “portrait experts” to its portfolio.

The OPPO Reno10 5G is the most affordable variant in the lineup, with the lone 8GB RAM/256GB storage configuration priced at P23,999 (around $423) locally. The base Reno10 model promises great performance and efficiency and flagship-level portraits without blowing your budget, to go along with all-day mileage and fast charging that can top up a dead battery to full in under 50 minutes.

If you’re considering this smartphone, or you’re on the fence about it, you may want to read on to find out what its key features are and whether or not they suit your needs. Here are the OPPO Reno10 5G’s top features, in no particular order.

Dressed to impress

Like its more expensive stablemates, the OPPO Reno10 5G has symmetrical curves on the front and back and sports the company’s signature OPPO Glow aesthetic with an anti-fingerprint matte coating on the rear panel. The phone is available in two attractive colors — Ice Blue and Silvery Grey, which we used for this feature. The Ice Blue variant has a color-changing pearlescent gradient design going on, so if you prefer something fancy, you may want to opt for that one instead.

The OPPO Reno10 5G feels smooth in the hand due to the rounded glass and side rails, while its weight of 185 grams gives it a solid feel in the palm and allows for a comfortable grip. It’s a pretty slim device as well, measuring just 7.9mm on the sides. The moment you pick it up, you notice how premium and well-put together it feels; there is no flex or hollowness to the chassis.

The display is also protected by AGC Dragontrail Star 2 cover glass for added protection against bumps and drops. This kind of cover glass is said to provide up to 20% better drop resistance compared with Corning’s Gorilla Glass 5 solution, but we have no way of knowing for sure.

The large, pill-shaped camera island around the back, on the other hand, lends the OPPO Reno10 5G a more sophisticated vibe. For convenient unlocking, this smartphone is also equipped with an under-display fingerprint reader, and it works as advertised — consistent, fast, and reliable.

Standout screen

The display is another cornerstone for the OPPO Reno10 5G. It actually uses the same panel as the more expensive OPPO Reno10 Pro 5G, featuring a 6.7-inch curved AMOLED screen with FHD+ resolution, a standard aspect ratio of 20:9, and the ability to show more than a billion colors, which translates to less color banding. It supports HDR video formats as well, including HDR10+ and HLG, in addition to Widevine L1, allowing you to stream Netflix and Amazon Prime Video content in high definition without any issues.

OPPO says the device can achieve an impressive 950 nits of peak brightness, and true enough, we didn’t have any issues using our unit outdoors in bright environments. The refresh rate goes up to 120Hz if you choose the High or Auto Select mode in the display settings. Another tip: You can enable OPPO’s proprietary Video Color Boost optimization under the O1 Ultra Vision Engine tab in the Display menu to make the colors pop out just a little bit more when watching a video.

Great for portraits and more

At the back, the OPPO Reno10 5G is equipped with a 64-megapixel main camera, alongside a 32-megapixel telephoto portrait 2x shooter and an 8-megapixel tertiary option for ultrawide shots like cityscapes and landscapes. The latter two are identical to what the OPPO Reno10 Pro 5G has. Notably, there are no filler sensors here. For selfies, the OPPO Reno10 5G packs a sharp 32-megapixel front camera that sits in a punch-hole cutout.

Non-portrait shots

The 64-megapixel primary camera uses a Quad-Bayer layout and saves 16-megapixel images by default, and the resulting daytime photos are (largely) noise-free and offer plenty of detail as well as accurate colors. You can shoot with the camera’s full 64-megapixel resolution, too, but the added file size and negligible sharpness improvement are probably not worth the hassle.

And of course, portraits (and self-portraits), the smartphone’s strong suit

The real story here is the OPPO Reno10 5G’s high-resolution telephoto portrait camera, which offers 2x optical zoom or the equivalent of a 47mm focal length portrait lens, as well as up to 20x digital zoom in Photo mode. It boasts an RGBW pixel array that’s claimed to improve the sensor’s light intake by 60% while reducing image noise by 35% compared with regular smartphone sensors that adopt the RGGB format.

Our test proves this model is a highly capable camera phone equipped with a well-rounded set of lenses that users would be able to switch to and experiment with in different types of shooting scenarios.

Smooth and efficient performance

Like the rest of OPPO’s Reno10 Series 5G phones, the OPPO Reno10 5G doesn’t skimp when it comes to day-to-day and gaming performance. It has been kitted with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 778G 5G chipset that uses 6nm technology to help it output better-sustained performance with fewer instances of throttling and heating under high load.

It also comes with sufficient RAM for fluid multitasking, with the option to turn on RAM Expansion in the Settings and bring the total RAM up to a whopping 16GB. That’s definitely more than enough memory for running a multitude of apps in the foreground and keeping them in the background. As Android skins go, OPPO’s ColorOS 13.1 overlay based on Android 13 performs great; it’s clean and mostly responsive with no major hiccups.

Comfortably lasts a day

To ensure all-day battery life, OPPO has opted for a 5,000mAh cell inside the phone, quite impressive considering the handset’s 7.9mm profile. It supports 67-watt SUPERVOOCTM fast charging out of the box, too, which is plenty fast for a device in this price bracket. In our test, it took our unit 45 minutes to reach a full charge from zero and 30 minutes to get to 75% battery capacity. Those are some excellent numbers for a midrange model, especially given its sizable battery pack.

The Snapdragon 778G chip has a good reputation for battery efficiency, so it’s not surprising that the OPPO Reno10 5G does not disappoint in that regard. With moderate use, our unit can easily last an entire day on a single charge with some juice left over for our morning routine the next day.
