No new iPads, as some rumors had claimed. We’re getting a stylus instead — and it is Apple‘s most affordable yet.
The American technology giant today announced an Apple Pencil with support for USB-C charging, and it will sell for only $79 (roughly P4,478) in the United States and P4,990 ($88) in the Philippines when it becomes available starting early November 2023. Take note that in the U.S., the first-generation and second-generation Apple Pencils are priced at $99 (P5,612) and $129 (P7,312), respectively.
The newly launched accessory has a matte finish; a flat edge that can magnetically attach to an iPad’s side for storage, wherein the Apple Pencil (USB-C) enters Sleep mode to preserve battery life; and a sliding cap that reveals the stylus’ USB-C port. It lacks pressure sensitivity, so this new product is really designed for note-taking, journaling, and the like.
So, which iPad models are compatible with the Apple Pencil (USB-C)? According to the company, the accessory works with all the iPads that are currently on the market except the iPad 9, to wit:
- iPad Pro 12.9-inch (6th generation)
- iPad Pro 12.9-inch (5th generation)
- iPad Pro 12.9-inch (4th generation)
- iPad Pro 12.9-inch (3rd generation)
- iPad Pro 11-inch (4th generation)
- iPad Pro 11-inch (3rd generation)
- iPad Pro 11-inch (2nd generation)
- iPad Pro 11-inch (1st generation)
- iPad Air (5th generation)
- iPad Air (4th generation)
- iPad (10th generation)
- iPad mini (6th generation)
