TECNO Mobile, the most popular Transsion Holdings brand in the Philippines, just launched its first clamshell foldable smartphone — the TECNO Phantom V Flip 5G — alongside the 14-inch TECNO Megabook T1 2023 laptop at an event in Singapore.

(Update, November 1: Turns out the TECNO Phantom V Flip 5G is the most affordable foldable in the Philippines!)

The newly unveiled handset is TECNO’s second foldable after the Phantom V Fold, which debuted at Mobile World Congress 2023 back in February and subsequently in June in the Philippines. You might recall that the horizontally folding phone debuted with a P59,999 (about $1,057 converted) suggested retail price on the local market.

The Phantom V Fold is currently one of the most affordable options in the folding-phone segment. Its stablemate, the TECNO Phantom V Flip 5G, will be aggressively priced as well, retailing at ₹49,999 (P34,205 or $603) in India. The brand will offer two colors at launch — black and purple.

True to the leaks, the TECNO Phantom V Flip 5G features a circular external 1.32-inch AMOLED screen accompanied by two cameras plus an LED flash ring. The main display measures 6.9 inches when unfolded and uses LTPO AMOLED technology for better efficiency. The primary camera sports a 64-megapixel image sensor, whereas the secondary shooter pairs a 13-megapixel sensor with an ultrawide lens.

The foldable panel supports a 120Hz refresh rate and has been advertised with 1,000 nits of peak brightness. Predictably, the external screen can be used to show notifications and several widgets and shoot selfies with the rear-facing cameras. Otherwise, you can use the 32-megapixel punch-hole camera for selfies and vlogs.

Inside the TECNO Phantom V Flip 5G is a MediaTek Dimensity 8050 5G chipset, which offers similar performance to the Dimensity 1300 and Dimensity 1200 SoCs and is also built on TSMC’s fairly efficient 6nm process node. There’s a 4,000mAh battery as well, and TECNO says you can charge it to 50% in just 15 minutes using the included 45-watt power brick.
