Ten days after its supposed unveiling, Xiaomi‘s latest flagship smartphone series is finally official.
(Update, February 27: The Xiaomi 13 Pro and Xiaomi 13 have finally been launched globally!)
The Xiaomi 13 Pro and Xiaomi 13 have launched in China, debuting the company’s latest version of its user interface, the MIUI 14 layered on Android 13, and showcasing once again the result of Xiaomi’s partnership with German camera and optics manufacturer Leica. And if the devices follow the release timeline of the Xiaomi 12 lineup, then they should go global in March 2023. Or probably at the Mobile World Congress technology convention in Barcelona, Spain, in end-February?
The Xiaomi 13 Pro and Xiaomi 13 are powered by Qualcomm’s most powerful chipset yet, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, which is said to offer 35% faster performance and 40% better power efficiency compared to the previous generation. The 5G SoC is paired with up to 12GB of LPDDR5 RAM and 512GB of UFS 4.0 storage.
Both premium phones are IP68 water- and dust-resistant, have versions that use an easy-to-clean nano-skin back, sport stereo speakers tuned by Dolby Atmos, and feature a 120Hz adaptive AMOLED E6 screen with a centrally placed punch-hole cutout, 1,900 nits of peak brightness, support for HDR10+ and Dolby Vision, 1,920Hz PWM dimming, and Corning Gorilla Glass Victus protection. However, the display on the Pro model measures 6.73 inches, has a QHD+ resolution, and is curved. The one on the regular variant is a 6.36-inch FHD+ flat screen.
And while the two handsets boast a Leica-branded camera, they have different setups. The Xiaomi 13 Pro pairs a 1-inch, 50-megapixel Sony IMX989 sensor with a 50-megapixel ultrawide and 50-megapixel telephoto lenses. The Xiaomi 13, on the other hand, comes with a 50-megapixel Sony IMX800 main sensor, a 12-megapixel ultrawide shooter, and a 10-megapixel telephoto cam.
In the battery department, the Pro model is equipped with a 4,820mAh cell with support for 120-watt wired and 50-watt wireless charging. The vanilla unit pack a 4,500mAh battery with 67-watt fast wired charging and 50-watt fast wireless charging.
In China, the two newly launched flagship smartphones come with the following price tags:
