As the name suggests, the new gaming phones are very much identical to the Snapdragon-based ROG Phone 6 series models that ASUS announced some months ago, except the latest iterations debut with a MediaTek Dimensity 9000 Plus chipset under the hood, hence the slight tweak to their model names.

If you’re not familiar, the Dimensity 9000 Plus is the Taiwanese chipmaker’s most powerful chipset yet, adding a more powerful primary core with a higher 3.2GHz clock speed. Like the regular MediaTek Dimensity 9000, it uses TSMC’s 4nm process, which should translate to industry-leading performance and improved power efficiency compared to previous generations.

And true to its namesake, the ASUS ROG Phone 6D Ultimate delivers faster CPU performance versus the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 platform that the ROG Phone 6 and ROG Phone 6 Pro use. Unfortunately for MediaTek, the GPU performance of the Dimensity 9000 Plus isn’t on a par with what Qualcomm offers at the moment.

We don’t know how much the ROG Phone 6D and 6D Ultimate will cost and when they will be available for purchase at this time. But it’s likely that ASUS will answer all our burning questions post-launch, so check back here because we’ll update this story.
