Same Vivo model, but two different versions in two different countries.

The Vivo Y77 5G was launched in China and Malaysia this week at the prices listed below, and they couldn’t be any more different. Not that we’re surprised, because things like this happen across the industry.

• Vivo Y77 5G in China: Starting at ¥1,499 (around P12,514 or $224)
• Vivo Y77 5G in Malaysia: RM1,299 (P16,430 or $293)

The one released in China is more premium, debuting as the world’s first smartphone powered by a MediaTek Dimensity 930. The 6nm 5G chip was announced alongside the Dimensity 1050 in May to “enable 5G smartphones to download data faster and stay connected regardless of location with 2CC-CA, including mixed duplex FDD+TDD for higher speeds and greater reach,” for one. The other variant is equipped with a 6nm MediaTek Dimensity 810 5G SoC.

The Vivo Y77 5G in China also has a bigger screen at 6.64 inches, faster charging support at 80 watts, more memory configurations on offer, and an additional color option with pinkish tones. However, the battery is smaller at 4,500mAh and the megapixel count of the front camera is 8. You can compare the specs of the two at the end of this article.

Even their design is not similar. The rear camera module of the Vivo Y77 5G in the world’s biggest smartphone market is two-toned, and gone is the waterdrop-style notch of the Y77 selling in Malaysia.

We’re guessing the version that went official in our neighboring Southeast Asian country is the one that will be launched in the Philippines, if ever. It’s likely happening within the next two months, especially since the price of its predecessor, the Vivo Y76 5G, has dropped from P16,999 ($304) to P14,999 ($268).
