Following the launch of its gaming-focused ROG Phone 6 series, ASUS today announced that its upcoming mainstream flagship will launch July 28 at multiple events scheduled in New York, Berlin, and, of course, Taipei.
(Update, July 29: The ASUS Zenfone 9 has been launched!)
And though the company has yet to reveal the ASUS Zenfone 9‘s specs and top features, its launch poster suggests the Zenfone 9 will again feature a compact, water-resistant design, same as its predecessor, to go along with advanced shooting and gaming capabilities. We can also see the smartphone’s front panel, which has a corner punch-hole cutout for the selfie camera.
In the Philippines, last year’s Zenfone 8 was priced competitively at P34,995 (roughly $621) for the model with 8GB RAM and 128GB of storage and P39,995 ($710) for the top-of-the-line 16GB/256GB variant. Assuming ASUS maintains its aggressive pricing strategy for its next compact flagship — and the leaks are accurate — we could be looking at a strong contender in the premium segment.
Last week, an official promo video for the Zenfone 9 made the rounds online, revealing many of the phone’s key specifications, including a palm-friendly body with a 5.9-inch 120Hz AMOLED display, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 chipset under the hood, a 50-megapixel Sony IMX766 main image sensor, and a 4,300mAh battery, up from the Zenfone 8’s 4,000mAh cell.
The camera system around the back is also equipped with a 6-axis hybrid gimbal stabilizer to help you shoot stable footage while moving. The promo video likewise highlighted the ASUS Zenfone 9’s ZenTouch side-mounted fingerprint reader, which doubles as a touch-sensitive slider; headphone jack at the top; and Light Trail mode in the default camera app.
As in the case of the ROG Phone series, the company will sell optional accessories for the Zenfone 9, such as the Smart Backpack Mount and Connex phone case with a kickstand or card holder. Finally, we have the color options: Based on the video, the ASUS Zenfone 9 will be offered in black, blue, red, and white colors.
